Literacy Tutor - Volunteer Position

Literal Change is a Canadian charity that believes literacy is a right, not a privilege. We deliver equitable remedial literacy interventions to vulnerable and marginalized populations in Toronto and the GTA.

Volunteer Tutor Roles & Responsibilities:

As our literacy program grows, we are looking for volunteer tutors to join the LC team. Our program is targeted towards youths and adults in the community and is offered completely virtually. We train educators on our structured literacy practices and provide them with the tools to implement them into their lessons. Using our curriculum and methodology, you will work one-on-one with students to build their literacy skills.

We are currently looking for volunteers to support our Youth Literacy Initiative.

Requirements:

*** We require our volunteer tutors to be 18+ ***

• Minimum 1-year commitment to volunteering
• 10 hours of virtual training
• Tutor students one-on-one in reading/writing/ESL
• Tutor for at least 1.5 hours/week (with additional prep time for lessons)
• Commit to Literal Change's methodology and curriculum
• Cater lesson plans to each student's needs
• Clear vulnerable sector check
