Through our programs and initiatives, we support youth, students, and young professionals in building real-world skills, confidence, and opportunities for growth.

As we continue to expand our programming and partnerships, we are strengthening our internal structure, governance, and compliance practices to support sustainable growth.

About the Role

We are seeking a Legal & Governance Advisor to support YBIB with legal oversight, contract review, and organizational governance.

This is an advisory and support-based role ideal for someone with knowledge of legal processes, nonprofit governance, and policy development who is looking to apply their skills in a meaningful, community-focused setting.

You will play a key role in ensuring that YBIB operates with strong legal and governance foundations as we grow.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and provide guidance on:
• Contracts and agreements (e.g., partnerships, employment/placement roles such as CSJ positions)
• Organizational documents and policies

Support the development and refinement of:

• Internal policies
• Governance frameworks
• Best practices for compliance and risk management
• Provide general guidance on legal considerations relevant to a nonprofit/youth-serving organization
• Offer advisory support to leadership on governance-related matters as needed

Who We’re Looking For

• Strong attention to detail, especially when reviewing documents
• Ability to provide clear, practical guidance (not just theory)
• Interest in nonprofit work, youth development, and community impact

Knowledge or experience in:

• Paralegal studies
• Law clerk programs
• Legal studies
• Public policy, governance, or related fields

Ideal Candidates

Upper-year students or recent graduates in:

• Paralegal or Law Clerk programs
• Legal Studies
• Public Policy / Governance

OR experienced professionals in legal, compliance, or policy-related fields looking to give back
