This is a part-time and remote unpaid volunteer position (8-10 hours a week)

Role Description

Support legal team with legal research, drafting, and reviewing documents while maintaining quality and consistency. Collaborate cross-functionally with the Finance Team to assist in funding initiatives for the organization’s mentorship program. Contribute to the development of legal strategies by working closely with legal team members and offering insights on various legal matters. Participate actively in regular team meetings and provide ongoing support across legal projects as required.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Support legal team members with legal research, drafting, and review of documents, ensuring accuracy and alignment with applicable laws and organizational standards.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with the Finance Team to support funding initiatives, particularly for Empowered Futures’ mentorship program.
  • Partner with legal team members to develop and implement legal strategies, providing practical and solution-oriented legal support.
  • Assist in handling a range of legal matters, including document review, compliance checks, and general advisory support.
  • Actively participate in weekly/bi-weekly team meetings, contributing updates, insights, and progress on ongoing initiatives.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent legal degree, with eligibility to practice law in Canada.
  • Demonstrated experience in legal research and strong legal writing, with the ability to produce clear, concise, and well-structured documents.
  • Proven experience drafting and reviewing a range of legal documents, including commercial contracts, intellectual property (IP) agreements, SaaS agreements, and privacy-related documentation.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • A genuine commitment to social justice, equity, and supporting underserved communities.
