Join Canada’s Largest Cigarette Litter Cleanup Anywhere in Canada

A Greener Future is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join the UNSMOKE Butt Blitz® this September! Together, we’re working to collect 1 million cigarette butts across Canada in one month and we need your help to make it happen.

Cigarette butts are one of the most common and overlooked forms of litter. At A Greener Future’s shoreline cleanups, they account for 1 in 5 pieces of litter collected. Their plastic filters and toxic chemicals can persist in the environment and pollute our communities and waterways.

But this campaign is about more than picking up litter. If we reach our goal of 1 million cigarette butts, the collected cigarette waste will be recycled into a community park bench – turning a million pieces of pollution into something lasting for the community.

How You Can Get Involved

1. Register
   • Sign up as an individual through the form on our website.
2. Collect cigarette butts from September 1st - 30th
   • Go out anywhere in your community and collect cigarette litter once or multiple times.
3. Submit your data
   • Each time you go out, submit how many cigarette butts you collected so your impact counts toward the national total.
4. Mail them in
   • Send us your collection to be recycled through TerraCycle Canada (shipping label provided).

Optional: Join one of our three short (30-minute max) virtual meetups to connect with fellow volunteers across the country.

This opportunity is completely flexible throughout September - you choose when and where you participate. Collected cigarette butts will be responsibly recycled through TerraCycle Canada.
