About Us
The Vancouver Aboriginal Transformative Justice Services Society (VATJSS) supports the healing, self-reliance, and success of Urban Indigenous people in Metro Vancouver. We work from a foundation of cultural safety, compassion, and respect, offering programs that empower community members to navigate systems — including justice, housing, and wellness — in a way that honours their dignity and lived experiences.
About the Role
We are looking for a Homelessness Liaison and Administrative Assistant who brings warmth, organization, and heart to our team. This role is often the first point of contact for community members entering our space. You’ll welcome people with kindness and understanding, helping connect them to the right supports within VATJSS — whether that’s housing assistance, advocacy, or trauma-informed guidance for those navigating the legal system. You’ll also play a key role in keeping our office running smoothly by managing schedules, supporting staff and Board activities, and ensuring our space feels organized, calm, and welcoming for everyone.
What You’ll Do
- Greet every person who walks through our doors with warmth, patience, and respect.
- Offer trauma-informed support to Indigenous community members seeking housing or navigating legal systems.
- Answer phones with care, listening deeply and connecting callers to helpful resources.
- Coordinate appointments and manage staff and client schedules.
- Maintain organized client files and intake documents.
- Keep our community resource board up to date with housing, employment, and wellness opportunities.
- Support Board meetings through scheduling, preparation, and accurate minute-taking.
- Process mail, invoices, cheques, and deposits responsibly.
- Track supplies and equipment, ensuring our space runs smoothly.
- Enter and maintain data in multiple databases accurately and confidentially.
What You Bring
- A certificate or diploma in Office Administration, or at least two years of related experience.
- Knowledge of the Metro Vancouver Indigenous community — including local resources, programs, and cultural protocols.
- A trauma-informed, strengths-based approach when supporting community members.
- Experience working with vulnerable populations or people experiencing homelessness.
- Excellent organization and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Comfort using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and multi-line phone systems.
- Ability to multitask, stay calm under pressure, and work both independently and as part of a team.
- Familiarity with Board governance and record-keeping is an asset.
- Must pass a criminal record check.
Why Join VATJSS
At VATJSS, you’ll be part of a team that values kindness, accountability, and community care. Every day, your work will make a difference — creating a welcoming, respectful space where Indigenous people feel seen, supported, and safe.
