Hours of Work: Monday to Friday between 9:00am and 5:00pm. Please note: There is no set schedule and no guarantee of hours.

Reports To: Manager of Community Programs
Hourly Rate: $21.85 per hour
Start Date: As soon as possible

Position Summary

Under the direction and supervision of the Supervisor and Manager, Community Program, the Home Help Worker is responsible for assisting clients with light housekeeping tasks in order for them to remain independent and comfortable in their own homes.

Key Responsibilities

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

ASSISTING CLIENTS WITH HOUSEHOLD/HOUSEKEEPING TASKS: To complete household management tasks such as, vacuuming, dusting, sweeping and washing floors, cleaning the kitchen and bathroom areas, laundry, changing bedding, garbage removal, shopping, and meal preparation (preparing light lunch/dinner, heating up pre-cooked meal, etc.).

ESCORTING CLIENTS TO APPOINTMENTS/SHOPPING: To accompany clients to medical appointments, shopping, or other activities, to assist them in carrying parcels.

OBSERVATION AND REPORTING: To report any concerns regarding clients’ homes, with regards to clients and worker safety. To report any concerns regarding clients’ health or wellbeing.

Other Requirements:
  • Able to work flexible hours to meet client needs;
  • Able to travel between clients either by car or transit;
  • Attends and actively participates in training and in-service sessions offered by CommunitiCare Health;
  • Participate in all scheduled PSW/HHW meetings;
  • Work within a team concept to insure the quality, quantity and consistency of service delivery;
  • Work in compliance with the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act;
  • Able to stand, bend kneel for extended periods and able to lift 23 kilograms independently;
  • Other duties as assigned that are required by the agency for continuity of care.

Qualifications

  • Valid Vulnerable Sector Check;
  • Current CPR certificate;
  • Time management skills to follow an established schedule;
  • Flexible and adaptable to change in daily activities;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Excellent customer service skills;
  • Effective communication skills both oral and written;
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work;
  • Ability to handle difficult situations involving clients, families, or others in a professional manner.
