Job Title: Harm Reduction Outreach Worker (2 positions open)

Supervised by: Harm Reduction Project Coordinator

Position requirements: 21 hours per week (Monday-Friday)

Term: Part-time contract (January 2026-March 2027)

Hourly rate: 19.50/hour

Organization Description: Asian Community AIDS Services (ACAS) is a charitable, non-profit, community-based organization located in Toronto, Canada. We provide safer sex education and services to the East and Southeast Asian communities and support services to persons living with HIV/AIDS and members of the LGBTQ2SIA+ community.

Position Overview: ACAS is seeking two part-time Harm Reduction Outreach Workers to support the Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) Alliance in promoting harm reduction and HIV/AIDS prevention education among BIPOC people who use drugs. The two individuals will collaborate with ACAS’ Harm Reduction Project Coordinator to conduct prevention and education outreach to youth, adults, people living with HIV/AIDS and LGBTQ2SIA+ people in areas of Toronto where there are geographic and social concentrations of East and Southeast Asian community members. Potential candidates in this role must have experience working effectively with a team in a harm reduction program setting.

** Please note that we strongly encourage candidates from Toronto’s East and Southeast Asian communities who bring lived and/or employment experience in relation to substance use/ harm reduction to apply. Candidates unable to demonstrate harm reduction experience will not be considered. We also strongly encourage applicants who are living with HIV to consider this role.

Responsibilities:

  • Support Harm Reduction Project Coordinator and project partners to conduct a community needs assessment.
  • Support the planning and execution of a hybrid joint event to present and share the ongoing activities, lessons learned, and progress report of the BIPOC Alliance project to service providers, community organizations and people who use drugs.
  • Organize and execute outreach sessions to visit specific sub-communities (including spotting).
  • Procure Harm Reduction materials and distribute harm reduction kits.
  • Support the planning and delivery of harm reduction STBBI testing events for participants including clients who use drugs and share drug-use equipment.
  • Support the planning and delivery of joint BIPOC Alliance STBBI testing events engaging participants who use drugs, share drug-use equipment.
  • Develop and produce culturally and linguistically relevant Harm Reduction resources for frontline service providers (including digital/social media/online resources)
  • Provide harm reduction outreach and peer support to ACAS clients.
  • Attend harm reduction events with the ACAS Harm Reduction Project Coordinator.
  • Support other peer-led/involved activities at the agency as needed.
  • Engage with the community and support the Harm Reduction Coordinators as needed.
  • Track and report engagement outcomes to supervisor.
  • Keep complete and accurate records of information through tracking tools.
  • Promote ACAS’ programming within East and Southeast Asian communities.
  • Attend and participate in staff and team meetings as well as relevant training as required.
  • Effectively participate and adhere to the performance management process.
  • Support the Project Coordinator with development of project reports.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Management.

Skills and Qualifications

  • Commitment to ACAS’ mission, vision and values.
  • Commitment to harm reduction programming for East and Southeast Asian people who use drugs.
  • Comfort conducting outreach, education and the exchange of harm reduction supplies in a range of neighbourhoods across the city.
  • Experience in building awareness of harm reduction, HIV and STIs in Toronto’s East and Southeast Asian communities.
  • Knowledge of, and relationships within, Toronto’s harm reduction service delivery system.
  • Knowledge of MS Office (Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point), internet and email are essential.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours including weekdays, evenings, and weekends.
  • Demonstrated experience working in Toronto’s East and Southeast Asian communities and experience in the field of HIV/AIDS and 2SLGBTQ+ services.
  • At least one-year of experience working or volunteering in a community-based, non-profit organization.
  • Commitment to using Anti-Racism, Anti-Oppression and Greater Involvement of People Living with HIV/AIDS and Meaningful Engagement of People Living with HIV/AIDS (GIPA/MEPA) frameworks.
  • Excellent communications skills.
