Habitat GTA Build Volunteer

Habitat for Humanity GTA is Greater Toronto’s most recognized provider and advocate of solutions that tackle our region’s housing crisis. Our mission is to create a world where everyone has a safe, quality place to live. We focus on creative solutions to address the affordable housing crisis in Toronto, Brampton, Caledon, York Region and Durham Region. With the help of volunteers, donors and community partners, we unlock change for generations Habitat by bringing the benefits of homeownership to more people and communities. Since 1988, Habitat GTA has built 25 new communities, empowering more than 650 families.

Are you passionate about building stronger communities and enjoy hands-on work? Join us as a Build Volunteer and help support affordable housing projects at Habitat GTA's new Build Factory located at 155 Bermondsey Road in North York.

As a Build Volunteer, you'll take part in a variety of construction-related activities that contribute directly to the creation of affordable homes. No extensive construction experience is required. We welcome individuals who are handy, enjoy DIY projects, are comfortable learning new skills, and are interested in making a meaningful impact in their community. Training and support will be provided by staff and Crew Leaders.

Working alongside Habitat GTA staff and fellow volunteers, you'll help complete construction tasks in a safe, supportive, and rewarding environment while contributing to our mission of building affordable housing.

What You Need to Know

Build Volunteers assist with a variety of hands-on construction activities such as wall panel assembly, measuring, cutting, fastening materials, material preparation, and general shop organization. Tasks will vary based on project needs and skill level.

What We're Looking For

• Interest in hands-on construction, learning new skills, and potentially growing into a Crew Member or Crew Leader role.
• Comfortable using basic hand and power tools, or willingness to learn
• Positive attitude, flexibility, and a sense of humour
• Ability to work safely as part of a team
• Reliable, dependable, and committed to creating a positive volunteer experience
• Willingness to follow safety procedures and instructions from staff

Training & Support

• Onsite training and coaching provided by Habitat GTA staff
• All necessary PPE supplied
• Health, safety, and construction training sessions available

Commitment

• We build Monday to Friday at our Build Factory located at 155 Bermondsey Road in North York.
• Volunteer shifts run from 7:30 AM to 4:00 PM.
• Volunteers participate on select Community Build Days scheduled throughout the year.
• Opportunities are self-scheduled through our online volunteer system once
