
Group Socialization Facilitator

Society of Sharing is seeking compassionate individuals like you to become Group Socialization Facilitators to help host gatherings for residents of a local community housing building.
Position: Group Socialization Facilitator
Volunteers needed: 7
Type: In-person (Downtown Toronto)
Reports to: Program coordinator
Time commitment: from 1:30 - 4:00 pm, same day per week, Monday to Thursday (Group Socialization Locations: Mondays – by Bathurst and College, Tuesdays – by Yonge and College, Wednesdays – by Queen and Spadina, Thursdays – by College and Yonge)
Position summary:
As a Group Socialization Facilitator, you will play a vital role in creating a warm and engaging environment where clients can connect, socialize, and enjoy meaningful interactions.
Volunteer duties and responsibilities:
- Arrange snacks and drinks for gatherings.
- Set up the meeting room prior to clients' arrival.
- Provide assistance to clients in wheelchair positioning or preparing beverages.
- Decorate the room for special occasions and holidays.
- Serve drinks and snacks to clients upon their arrival.
- Engage in conversations with clients, fostering introductions and connections.
- Offer to play games or crafts to interested clients.
Volunteer skills and qualifications:
- Be 18 years old or older.
- Have a sincere interest in working with seniors and adults with disabilities.
- Possess sensitivity to the needs and challenges faced by older adults.
- Exhibit patience, compassion, and a desire to help vulnerable and isolated seniors.
- Dependable and punctual.
- Ability to speak English and other languages is an asset.
- Excellent communication and active listening skills.
- Strong organizational abilities.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Experience in initiating conversations and engaging clients in social activities is an asset.
Other requirements:
- Vulnerable sector check.
- Proof of full Covid-19 vaccination or medical exemption certificate.
