You are a passionate and dedicated professional with experience facilitating group programming for children and youth, particularly within diverse and inclusive environments. You have a strong understanding of the unique needs of 2SLGBTQIA+ youth and are committed to creating safe, supportive spaces where they can explore their mental well-being.

Your background includes delivering structured prevention programs, planning engaging activities, and fostering meaningful discussions. You bring excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, and are comfortable working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.

You are adept at building positive relationships with young people, using creativity and empathy to design inclusive group experiences. You also bring a strong commitment to client safety and well-being, and are familiar with reporting tools and practices such as CaseWORKS. With up-to-date CPR/First Aid and UMAB training, and confidence working in virtual or hybrid environments, you’re ready to contribute to impactful, community-based prevention services across the Halton region.

The ROLE

As a group facilitator reporting to the Manager of Community and Youth Development, this position will require the delivery of targeted prevention groups and services for children, youth and families. It will include opportunities to provide programming across the Halton region as part of the prevention services team. This position will also include a focus on the development and facilitation of groups for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth; creating a supportive environment for 2SLGBTQIA+ youth to explore their mental well-being.

You will prepare weekly prevention sessions using guidelines/agendas outlined by targeted prevention group manuals. Plan group activities, including crafts, role playing, games, and discussions pertaining to the topic of the week, facilitate group activities (i.e., discussions, closing activities). You will Complete weekly group documentation, including attendance records and records of individual participant progress in CaseWORKS, as required, provide an inclusive and enjoyable environment for all group participants and escalate any group concerns to the manager and attend monthly supervision with the Manager.

You will operationalize client safety through adhering to established policies and guidelines that ensure consistency in the delivery of quality and safe care, and by identifying and reporting any client safety incidents and abide by the specific requirements of Section 28 of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, as well as any further health and safety responsibilities outlined in the agency’s policy and procedure documents.

Please note that this is a casual position with an end date of March 31, 2026.

Demonstrated experience in group facilitation with children and/or youth

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships.
  • Able to work independently and contribute to a team.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, are essential
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Strong time management and multitasking skills in a fast-paced work environment are essential
  • Proficient in the use of technology and working in a virtual environment; MAC OS operating systems; strong MS Word and Excel competencies are essential; expertise in the use of PowerPoint is an asset
  • Reliable transportation for traveling within the Halton Region in alignment with the program needs
