About BGC Canada (formerly Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada)
For 125 years, BGC Canada has been creating opportunities for millions of Canadian kids and teens. During out-of-school hours in small and large cities, and rural and Indigenous communities, our trained staff and volunteers provide intentional programs and services that are responsive to community need and help young people realize positive outcomes as lifelong learners, sustained wellbeing, positive relationships and inspired leaders. Opportunity changes everything.
Our Mission: To provide safe, supportive places where children and youth can experience new opportunities, overcome barriers, build positive relationships, and develop confidence and skills for life.
Our Vision: All children and youth discover and achieve their dreams and grow up to be healthy, successful, and active participants in society.
Our Values: Belonging, respect, encouragement and support, working together, and speaking out.

Inspired Leaders – Club members develop confidence and have the skills they need to lead themselves and positively influence others.
About The Project
Goal: In partnership with the Students Commission of Canada, the Hearing Unheard Moments project will work towards decreasing grievance-based violence by creating collaborations of shared-purpose organizations and institutions that implement upstream programs and activities under a common framework and messaging designed to foster upstream shifts to cultures of inclusion. Objectives:
- To increase synergy, collaboration and capacity amongst youth-and-family serving organizations, schools and academics working on upstream prevention of polarization and radicalization of youth ages 6 to 24, with tailored programming adjusted for age and demographics.
- To support provide safe youth programming spaces in schools and communities that spills over into families and builds young people’s resilience to violent extremist influences by addressing risk and protective factors.
- To help young people make sense of positive and negative online experiences, while helping them connect through positive offline experiences (e.g., at school), to promote positive development.
