Position: Friendly Visitor Volunteer - Cantonese

Volunteer Type: In Person

Hours of work: 2 hours/week (twice a week, 1 hour per shift)

Volunteers Needed: 4

Reports To: Friendly Connections Supervisor

Position Summary: 

The volunteer will support the Friendly Connections department by providing social companionship to seniors through scheduled in-person visits, aiming to reduce isolation and enhance well-being.

Responsibilities:

• Phone one or more clients at an agreed upon time on a regular basis.
• Conduct a friendly conversation, listening to the client’s concerns and offering support and encouragement where needed.
• Check on the client’s health and well-being.
• Record calls and report any areas of concern for office follow-up.
• Complete and submit a monthly time/activity report.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Must be fluent in Cantonese.
• Speak clearly and be a good listener.
• Engage in activities your client enjoys.
• Visits should be at least 30 minutes but be mindful of the client’s energy levels.

Other:

• To continue Friendly Visiting Services as Friendly Visiting volunteers, all volunteer must attend 90 % of the service schedule and commit continuous volunteer for minimum 6 months.
• Record calls and report any areas of concern for office follow-up.
• Complete and submit a monthly time/activity report.
• Participate in regular meetings.
• Report any incidents, accidents, and concerns relating to client behavior to the supervising staff.
