Position Summary:
The Friendly Caller Volunteer supports SPLC’s Friendly Connections program by providing regular telephone companionship to clients and older adults. Through friendly 15- to 20-minute conversations, the volunteer helps reduce social isolation, builds meaningful connections, and supports clients’ emotional well-being. This virtual role is ideal for a patient, compassionate, and outgoing individual who enjoys listening, engaging in conversation, and bringing encouragement and positivity to the lives of older adults.
Responsibilities:
- Make scheduled telephone calls to assigned clients and older adults.
- Engage clients in friendly, respectful conversations lasting approximately 15–20 minutes.
- Provide companionship, encouragement, and a listening ear to help reduce social isolation.
- Build positive and appropriate relationships while maintaining professional boundaries.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Ability to speak English is required.
- Strong verbal communication and active-listening skills.
- Friendly, patient, compassionate, and respectful manner.
- Comfortable initiating and maintaining conversations with older adults.
- Ability to build rapport while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.
