Unpaid Volunteer Position

Food Banks Mississauga’s vision is a Mississauga where everyone is food secure. We lead our agency network to realize a food-secure Mississauga by providing and promoting access to healthy and appropriate food.

Purpose

Assist Food Banks Mississauga in packing fresh, frozen, and shelf stable food to be delivered to neighbours on the Food Bank 2 Home delivery program.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare food orders according to order forms and label each bag of food accurately for each homebound neighbour.
  • Support the lead packer volunteer and other packer volunteers as needed.
  • Welcome volunteer drivers and assist them with loading food deliveries into their cars.

Qualifications

  • 18 years of age or older with a mature and positive attitude.
  • Ability to move and/or lift for the duration of the shift.
  • Ability to lift 10-20 pounds.
  • Attention to detail and excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Punctual and dependable.
  • Highly motivated and results-driven with a demonstrated ability to problem-solve and adapt in a fast-paced, high-pressure warehouse environment.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team with a positive attitude.
  • Experience handling or knowledge of various food products considered an asset.
  • Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes such as boots or running shoes.
  • Important Consideration: For those with food allergies, please be advised you will be potentially exposed to all types of food.

Reports to: Food Bank Programs Team Lead

Location: The Food Banks Mississauga warehouse, 4544 Eastgate Parkway, Mississauga

Duration: Minimum 6 months commitment

Time Commitment: Weekly shift on the same day - Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday 10:00 am to 2:30 pm; Wednesday 1:00 pm to 5:30 pm

Training Provided: In-person training sessions. Ongoing, hands-on training and support.
