About the Nova Scotia Non-Profit Housing Association

The Nova Scotia Non-Profit Housing Association (NSNPHA) is a provincial, membership-based organization focused on strengthening and advancing the non-profit housing sector across Nova Scotia. Through advocacy, collaboration, and capacity-building initiatives, NSNPHA supports the growth and sustainability of community housing providers throughout the province.

Established in 2023, NSNPHA brings together nonprofit housing organizations and sector partners working to expand access to safe, affordable, and inclusive housing for Nova Scotians.

Through advocacy, collaboration, sector capacity building, and strategic partnerships, NSNPHA works to strengthen the community housing sector and ensure that non-profit housing organizations have the tools and support they need to succeed.

The Opportunity

The Nova Scotia Non-Profit Housing Association is seeking an experienced and strategic Executive Director to lead the organization into its next phase of growth and impact.

This role presents a unique opportunity for a seasoned nonprofit leader to help shape the future of community housing in the province while strengthening the sector’s voice with government, partners, and stakeholders.

The successful candidate will bring strong executive leadership experience, a collaborative leadership style, and a commitment to advancing housing solutions for communities across Nova Scotia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Are comfortable representing an organization publicly
  • Can balance strategic thinking with hands-on leadership
  • Bring a collaborative, solutions-focused leadership style
  • Thrive in a small team environment where flexibility and initiative are important

Location & Work Model

This is a hybrid position based in Nova Scotia, offering a flexible work arrangement.

The Executive Director is expected to maintain a regular in-person presence to support leadership, team engagement, and relationship-building across the sector. Halifax will serve as a primary hub for onboarding, meetings, and key organizational activities, and the successful candidate must be able to travel to Halifax on a regular basis.

Candidates may be based outside of Halifax (e.g., Truro, Wolfville, or surrounding areas); however, they must be located within a reasonable commuting distance to support ongoing in-person engagement.

The role also requires travel throughout Nova Scotia to engage with members and stakeholders, as well as approximately two to three national trips per year for conferences or sector events.

The organization will support the Executive Director in establishing an effective in-person working presence; however, this role is not intended to be fully remote.
