POSITION OVERVIEW
The Interim Executive Director provides strategic and operational leadership to NYWC during a period of transition. Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Interim ED is responsible for the overall administration, financial health, staffing, programming, and public profile of the organization. Working closely with staff, volunteers, committees, and community partners, the Interim ED ensures that NYWC’s day‑to‑day operations, programs, and fundraising activities are delivered effectively and in alignment with the Centre’s feminist, anti‑racist, and anti‑oppression values.
The Interim Executive Director supports and supervises staff and program facilitators, fosters a safe and collaborative workplace culture, and ensures strong communication and coordination across the organization. The role also plays a central part in financial planning, fundraising development, board support, and strategic planning, helping the organization respond to emerging needs while maintaining continuity and stability. This position requires a hands‑on, adaptable leader with strong management, fundraising, and financial skills, and a deep commitment to working alongside women from diverse and marginalized communities.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Administration
- Responsible for the coordination and day to day running of the NYWC Office and any satellite locations
- Responsible for providing support to the Board of Directors including the preparation of board meetings, mailings, materials etc.
- Responsible for the overall coordination of the Annual General Meeting, AGM Report and all materials pertaining to the AGM
- Support staff to the Personnel, Finance, AGM, Fundraising, Program , Strategic Planning and any other committees considered appropriate by the Board of Directors
Personnel
- Responsible for all supervision and support of staff
- Communicates and coordinates with staff, work priorities
- Ensures and encourages a supportive, safe and healthy work environment for staff and volunteers
- Identifies staff development issues and communicates this information to the Personnel Committee
- Responsible for encouraging team spirit and communication among staff in the office
- Hold regular staff meetings
- Conducts staff evaluations, entrance and exit interviews in accordance with personnel policy
- ensures that programs are facilitated by Centre’s volunteers
- Works with Program Committee to identify program needs, priorities, monitoring and evaluation
- Responsible for supervision of program facilitators
- Responsible for coordinating facilitator training programs
- Works with Volunteer Coordinator to develop training materials, outreach strategies etc.
Fundraising
- Works with Fundraising Committee to develop long and short term fundraising development strategies
- Identifies appropriate and possible sources of funding and fundraising opportunities
- Prepares funding applications, proposals to government, foundations, corporations
- Works with the Ontario Association of Women Centres and other women’s organizations to develop strategies for fundraising
- Responsible for thank you letters to donors
- Responsible the sale and distribution of promotional items and materials
- Provides overall coordination and planning for all fundraising events
Financial Planning
- Works with Finance Committee and Treasurer to develop financial planning
- Works with Administrative Coordinator and Finance Committee to ensure effective financial management
- Works with Finance Committee to prioritize, plan, monitor and evaluate agency budget
- Ensures the organization operates within the budget approved by the Board of Directors
- Ensures that the Board of Directors are notified of a realized deficit
- Must make regular financial reports to the Board of Directors
Communications
- Responsible for communicating the Centre’s overall mandate, policies, priorities, programs to the funders, community etc.
- Responsible for reviewing all written materials, documents from the Centre to ensure it is reflective of the agency mandate
- Develop communication strategies to raise the agencies profile in the community develop strategies and coordinate outreach to women in marginalized communities nurture and maintain networks with other social justice agencies, particularly those working with women in marginalized communities.
Strategic Planning
- Works with the Board of Directors to identify organizational issues
- Provides support and facilitates the change process from beginning to implementation stage
WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TEAM
- A minimum of 3 years of management experience in a feminist non-profit organization
- Excellent management, organizational, communication, interpersonal , written and oral skills
- Ability to analyze political, social, and economic issues from a feminist, anti-racism/anti-oppression perspective
- A solid understanding of fundraising development
- A solid understanding of financial planning
- Ability to work under pressure and with limited resources
- Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and to meet deadlines
- A demonstrated ability and commitment to working with women from all social, political, economic, cultural, racial and ethnic backgrounds
- Proven ability to effectively manage and supervise paid staff and volunteers
- Proficiency with technology
