Unpaid Volunteer Position

BALANCE for Blind Adults is a not-for-profit organization that helps people who are blind or partially sighted build the skills, confidence, and connections needed to navigate life with vision loss on their own terms.

BALANCE for Blind Adults will be hosting an Access Technology Demo Fair and we are looking for volunteers to help support the event.

This is a great opportunity to learn practical accessibility skills, contribute to an engaging community event, and spend the day at the unique MaRS Discovery District event space located at 101 College St.

The first step will be a 1.5 hour sighted guide training session in advance of the event. Volunteers are required to attend one of two available training sessions. Training will be led by experienced Orientation & Mobility Specialists and will cover how to provide sighted guide support for people who are blind or partially sighted

Training dates:

June 5 from 1:30pm-3pm

June 10 from 6pm-7:30pm

Location:

West Neighbourhood House

248 Ossington Ave

On the day of the event, volunteers will support attendees and assist staff from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the MaRS event space by helping with wayfinding, assisting people as they move between event areas, and providing other event-specific support as needed.

Volunteers will also have the chance to learn about assistive technology throughout the day. Lunch will be provided.
