The Salvation Army - Toronto Downtown East - 160 Jarvis Street, is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to facilitate a free English conversation circle as part of our “Love New Canadians” program.

This program aims to create a friendly and welcoming space for newcomers to:

  • practice speaking English
  • Learn about Canadian Culture
  • Build Confidence
  • Make new friends!


Position Overview:

The Volunteer English Conversation Circle Facilitator will lead an in-person session every Friday from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM, for a total of 6 weeks. The facilitator will support participants in developing their conversational English skills and confidence in a supportive group environment.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and update the Love New Canadians teaching materials
  • Facilitate weekly in-class English sessions and interactive activities
  • Encourage respectful conversations
  • Share insights into Canadian culture and daily life
  • Provide constructive feedback to participants
  • Always maintain participant confidentiality


Qualifications:

  • Fluent in English
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Culturally sensitive and respectful of diverse backgrounds
  • Experience working with adult learners in a classroom or group setting is an asset


Additional Notes:

Teaching materials will be provided. Some content may require minor updates, and we welcome your support in developing lesson plans and handouts.
