Are you a passionate leader driven to make a meaningful impact?

Join the Manitoba Inuit Association (MIA) and help strengthen connections to Inuit culture, language, and community for Inuit across Manitoba.

Guided by an Inuit Board of Directors, MIA delivers innovative, Inuit-specific programs and services that reflect our values, honour our traditions, and respond to the evolving needs of Inuit families in both urban and rural areas. From training, education, and employment supports to health, wellbeing, and community connections — our work is about creating opportunities and building a vibrant, resilient Inuit community.

About the Role

As Director of Programs & Services, you will lead a portfolio of high-impact initiatives that bring MIA’s mission to life. Reporting directly to the CEO, you’ll oversee a talented and dedicated team, ensuring our programs are responsive, culturally safe, and rooted in Inuit leadership principles.

Your leadership will be especially critical in the oversight of MIA’s violence shelter, where cultural competency, compassion, and a deep understanding of community needs are essential. You will work to expand our reach, strengthen our partnerships, and ensure our services continue to meet the highest standards of excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead with purpose — Oversee MIA’s programs and services (excluding judicial programs), ensuring they reflect Inuit values and address community priorities.
  • Empower your team — Supervise and mentor staff in Winnipeg and remote locations, fostering collaboration, trust, and professional growth.
  • Champion cultural safety — Embed cultural competency and Indigenous leadership principles into every program.
  • Drive program excellence — Enhance design, delivery, and evaluation to ensure impact and quality.
  • Secure resources — Lead proposals, grants, and funding efforts for key initiatives, including the Inuit Child First Initiative.
  • Build connections — Strengthen relationships with community organizations, service providers, and funders.
  • Be a voice for the community — Represent MIA at events, share our stories, and advocate for Inuit needs.

Candidate Profile

You are an inspiring, community-minded leader who understands the strength of Inuit culture and the importance of culturally relevant services. You thrive in building strong teams, forging meaningful partnerships, and driving programs forward. You bring:

  • A diploma or degree in Social Services, Indigenous Studies, or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience managing social programs and services (preferably with Indigenous or Inuit communities).
  • Direct service experience with children and families (3–5 years preferred).
  • Strong cultural competency and knowledge of Indigenous leadership principles.
  • Fluency in English; knowledge of Inuktitut is a valued asset.

Why Join Us?

At MIA, you’ll be part of a mission-driven organization where your work has a direct, positive impact on the lives of Inuit across Manitoba. You’ll lead programs that honour tradition while creating new opportunities for the future. This is more than a job — it’s a chance to be part of a movement to strengthen our community for generations to come.
