The Native Women’s Resource Centre of Toronto (NWRCT) is a community-based organization funded by government programs and public and private donations, dedicated to providing resources and support to Urban Indigenous Women and their families. Every year, the NWRCT delivers culturally relevant programs and services to empower and build the collective capacity and self-sufficiency of Indigenous Women. About The Role
The Community Wellness Role focuses on providing client and participant-based services, referrals, support, and case management to indigenous individuals, families, and children to address/respond to existing and emerging health, healing, and wellness issues, or violent situations. The Community Wellness position will report to the Program Manager for the execution of the activities described below.
What You Will Bring Along:
- Post-secondary diploma/degree in social work or community wellness, with a minimum of two (2) years’ work experience in community service delivery or the equivalent
- Experience in client advocacy with demonstrated experience providing services to Indigenous women, and families.
- Experience working with Indigenous Peoples and Communities is preferred.
- Knowledge of Indigenous cultures, traditions, and family dynamics is preferred.
- Strong organizational/time management skills
- Excellent communication, facilitation, and public speaking skills § Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to network and maintain relationships with service providers.
- Computer Savvy and working knowledge of Office equipment.
- First Aid/CPR certifications are an asset.
- Current Police Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Screening are required.
What You Will Be Doing:
- Provide one-on-one support and participant/group-based services to Indigenous Women and their children in the GTA
- Client-Based Services – Peer support, assisting clients to access services related to reducing family violence and improving Aboriginal health, advocacy, crisis intervention, referrals to other services such as addiction centers, shelters, court workers, legal, etc.
- Participant-Based Services – culturally based community and group activities that promote Aboriginal healing and wellness such as Sisters in Spirit, weekly drum circle, other NWRCT programs, and guest workshops.
- Outreach Services – network with surrounding health and social agencies, organize, facilitate, and attend community and cultural events such as cultural awareness, and illness prevention.
- Process in-house client intake assessments and determine appropriate referrals.
- Assist clients in developing action plans to address their health, healing, and wellness concerns.
- Take responsibility to increase sensitivity, awareness, and implementation of cultural teachings and organizational practices in a professional manner.
- Assist and maintain a master volunteer list for NWRCT for events such as Sisters in Spirit, and Solstice
- Assist and recruit volunteers for NWRCT programs and activities.
- Assist with training and mentoring of front-line staff.
