Community Support Worker and TUHU Organizer
Location: All Saints Church Community Centre, 315 Dundas Street E., Toronto, and
onsite in the Regent Park neighbourhood. Different parts of the city for occasional
meetings. Main spaces of employment are wheelchair accessible.
Reports To: Case Manager, All Saints, in collaboration with the Regent Park
Community Ministry, 40 Oak Street, Toronto.
This is one of three positions funded for a one-year pilot to support the work of TUHU
(Toronto Underhoused and Homeless Union) in building capacity and community,
including increasing the number of TUHU chapters. The positions were created through
a collaboration between All Saints and the RPCM (Regent Park Community Ministry)
which are the umbrella organizations and supporters of TUHU.
This position will work on site at All Saints primarily, as well as in the community.
All Saints Church-Community Centre (ASCCC) is a non-profit organization that provides support to some of Toronto’s most economically disenfranchised people: people who experience homelessness, mental health and physical health barriers, and trauma. ASCCC operates a drop-in program at the corner of Sherbourne and Dundas, and offers low-barrier programs related to harm reduction, food, case management, peer- work, basic health related support, spiritual care and community, as well as a range of drop-in activities for community members experiencing extreme or “deep” poverty. The position will act as a community support worker on site at All Saints, with the special focus for TUHU growth and collaboration on specific days of the week. The Community Support Worker collaborates with other drop-in staff and volunteers to
provide an enriched setting for adults experiencing homelessness and social isolation.
The person in this position works with the drop-in team to provide a supportive, safe
space where individuals can meet their basic needs, have opportunities for social
connections and community, and feel respected and valued. The Community Support
Worker engages, assesses, refers, and supports drop-in participants as appropriate,
and informs new visitors about available services and opportunities. The Community
Support Worker develops and supports client engagement, and supports the meal
program and other programming activities as necessary. In addition, the Community
Worker will focus on building opportunities for engagement with TUHU on site, in the

community. The person will hold regular TUHU meetings on site, and work 1:1 with
people to help build their organizing capacity with each other. They will work
collaboratively with the TUHU staff team to administer TUHU info sessions, meetings,
and a new hub where people can come to engage and work together.
Duties
Community Support Worker Duties:
ï· Prepare drop-in for daily activities.
ï· Greet and connect with participants, seeking out opportunities for engagement, and provide referrals to appropriate support services.
ï· Circulate in the drop-in during operation hours & work collaboratively with drop-in team.
ï· Cooperate with other drop-in team members in preventing and appropriately handling crises in the drop-in.
ï· Identify participants in crisis, complete safety referral plans as appropriate.
ï· Provide practical support to participants, which may involve assisting with meal preparation and service, cleaning, distribution of donations, and facilitating access to other services.
ï· Distribute harm reduction supplies and information related to safer substance use.
ï· Compile and maintain statistics, records and other documentation as required by the supervisor, and gather anecdotal information for reports and proposals.
ï· Assist unloading and storing delivery items.
ï· Participate in team, supervisory, staff meetings/debriefings and training. ï· Ensure client confidentiality on all matters.
ï· All activities with this position must be achieved in a manner consistent with the policies and procedures of All Saints and the Anglican Diocese of Toronto.
ï· Other duties as they arise.
Alongside these duties, the position will also have TUHU Chapter Organizer duties,
including the establishment of a TUHU chapter at All Saints through relationships made
through the All Saints drop-in and in the community including its neighbour, the Maxwell
Meighan shelter.
TUHU Chapter Organizer Duties:
ï· Facilitate chapter meetings, often with other co-facilitators, sometimes alone
ï· Engage with people in the shelters and/or drop-in spaces to build community and connections
ï· Identify and foster community leaders and invite them to join TUHU
ï· Administer surveys and perform other data collection to determine resident and/or servicer user needs.

ï· Establish and build partnership opportunities in the community for TUHU
ï· Contact residents and/or service users, and distribute posters and other materials to remind them about upcoming actions or meetings.
ï· Foster a productive relationship and help to negotiate with shelter and/or drop-in administration about the needs of residents or service users.
ï· Create written materials for meetings, outreach initiatives, and actions.
ï· Report back to lead organizers and TUHU Executive and Local about union activities
ï· Help bridge the gap between the chapter and the broader union and build bi- directional unity and support.
ï· Attend monthly local meetings, chapter meetings, local information sessions and City Hall meetings as necessary
ï· Work collaboratively with the TUHU Organizer at All Saints and the TUHU Admin / Programming Assistant, as well as executive and co-leads
ï· Other duties as they arise.
Concrete Goals by the end of the pilot:
1. Establish a regular and meaningful TUHU presence at All Saints drop-in, including
establishing (with the support of other TUHU staff) the hub, and holding regular info
sessions in the drop-in.
2. Assist in the establishment of regular TUHU meetings at All Saints drop-in by end of
the pilot in 2026.
3. Achieve a consistent attendance of engaged members who are also taking on leadership tasks and ownership of TUHU development by end of contract.
4. Co-organize six advocacy actions across both sites, with at least one action per site that have engaged residents and/or drop-in participants directly and made meaningful improvements in their lives.
5. Identify other opportunities for partnership and chapter development in the Sherbourne area. Help establish an additional chapter in the same vicinity at an as yet unspecified location by end of contract.
Requirements
ï· Good understanding of issues related to housing and homelessness, mental health, and harm reduction
ï· Strong verbal communication skills and a friendly manner
ï· Highly developed conflict resolution, problem solving, and facilitation skills
ï· Ability to work closely with team members and take initiative while also following drop-in and organizational policies and procedures
ï· Familiarity with anti-oppressive practice and low-barrier service provision
ï· Comfortable communicating using email, text, and phone, as well as in person
ï· Experience working with people who have experienced homelessness and
marginalization, as well as people who need accommodation due to mental health
or physical health needs. The successful candidate must be sensitive to needs, and
have willingness to accommodate
ï· Good people and organizational skills

people in person or via phone call or text, giving reminders, talking through things

goals. Grounded and focused on liberation and justice for people experiencing
homelessness
Compensation / Benefits
Fixed-term contract with possibility of renewal
$29 per hour, 35 hours per week with benefits
