Community Event Volunteer
ROLE SUMMARY:
Volunteers are to spread awareness about our organization, provide meaningful experiences for attendees, and ensure events run smoothly.
OBJECTIVE:
Represent MRPMCS at community events, for different audiences, and facilitate community outreach & information sessions.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Set up the tent: Each person should be at a tent leg diagonal from each other. Lift the grips as far as they go until they click into place. You will need to attach the tent weights to each of these legs as well, which are Velcro.
2. Set up the signs: This will be either our vertical or horizontal sign, or both.
- For the vertical, raise the lift until it clicks and either the bungie cords or zap straps to attach the sign’s pole to the tent leg, so it won’t move and sits comfortably in front of our booth.
- For the horizontal, use zap straps to hang it at the back of our booth.
3. Set up the tables: Please set up the two tables in an ‘L’ shape at the back of the booth with a tablecloth on each. One table will have our stand-up program signs with resources in front of it. The other will have miscellaneous things (other signs, donation forms/cards, businesses cards, Community Services swag, etc.).
Getting out in front of the booth trying to get people to come over is encouraged!
• A positive, kind, and helpful attitude is required as you are representing our organization
• Anytime a person comes into our booth, please be prepared to answer the following questions:
- “What is Community Services?”
- “What kind of programs/services do you have?”
- “What opportunities do you have for volunteers?”
- “How do I make a donation?”
- *Specific question about program*
Please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions sheet on how to answer these questions!
• Volunteers will almost always have a Community Services (CS) employee with them, so they can always redirect a complicated question to them or ask for help.
• The volunteer should help with take down (of the booth), but the CS employee will be responsible for transporting the booth supplies to and from the community event as they will have access to the CS building.
• Volunteers must review event checklists ensuring all supplies are present
Volunteers will be required to complete an application form, criminal record check, and orientation/training.
