About NABORS:

We are dedicated to supporting people with physical and developmental disabilities (“supported members”) to have rich and full lives in community and have control over their lives.

NABORS circles of support are made up of our friends and families who freely give their time to assist us to make informed decisions, act on choices, manage our paid supports and feel safe. Members are supported to live in the homes of their choice and be fully included in the community.

About the Job:

The NABORS member that is currently hiring is seeking one candidate for Monday from 8am to 3 or 4pm with opportunity for occasional relief.

Working with an adult male ("supported member") who resides in the Parkdale area (Dufferin & King West). The Community Support Worker will work to explore his passions through helping to connect him into community opportunities, providing personal care, and maintaining his day-to-day needs.

Problem solving with member when facing challenges and constructing achievable self-supporting solutions for member that promote independence. Taking initiative to explore and find inclusive opportunities for member based on his passions and interests to expand community while using exceptional organizational skills to plan timelines with member, organize a consistent schedule and providing structure to the daily needs and communication with the circle and other folks involved.

Wage:

23.34 per hour

The Support Worker provides support by:

  • Assisting the member to create a home where they have maximum control over members home and environment, their activities, and associations; where member will feel safe and secure, where member can welcome friends and family.
  • Supporting members physical needs including personal hygiene and personal care.
  • Understanding dietary restrictions and preparing delicious meals to share with member.
  • Assisting in relationship building by the development of and support to natural relationships within the member’s family, friends, and community
  • Supporting the member to find fun and exciting ways to participate in the community that are unique and have potential to expand social circles for member ensuring members safety.

Preferred Experience:

· Experience supporting individuals with disabilities

· Is a connector of people, able to bridge and identify potential relationships in the community and assist in the facilitation with member

· A strong value base that supports the idea that we are all interdependent and have strengths and gifts to share with others.

· Knowledge of Social Role Valorization (SRV)

· Understanding and appreciation of NABORS mission, vision and principles

· Flexibility as position requires varied support hours including potential overnight and weekend support

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required

· Excellent organizational skills

Requirements:

  • Experience (paid or not paid) working one on one with someone for their daily physical, domestic, emotional, and social needs or experience in social work/ an understanding of the need for mutual peer care and support
  • Strong motivational skills, can work independently with little crossover with other staff, while working and collaborating with the rest of staff for the member's needs
  • Vulnerable Sector Check (we will assist with this) & 2 doses for the covid vaccine
  • Experience with Augmentative communication would be considered an asset
  • Access to a car and valid driver’s license is preferred, but not required
  • Experience with taking initiative Strong organizational, problem solving and communication skills
  • Willingness to be flexible and adapt to members needs.
  • Enthusiastic about opportunities for more training
  • Valid Emergency First aid & CPR (if you do not have a current one, there is a window of time to get it when you start)
  • The member who is currently hiring resides in the Parkdale area (Dufferin & King West).
  • The hiring is conditional upon clearing a Vulnerable Sector Police check. Emergency First Aid & CPR will be required before working.
