Community Engagement Coordinator

Full-Time Contract

Hours: 40 hours per week, with some remote work flexibility

Reports to: Community Engagement & Marketing Manager

Burlington Food Bank is seeking a creative, organized, and community-minded Community Engagement Coordinator to support our digital communications, events, donor recognition, and community engagement efforts. Working closely with the Community Engagement & Marketing Manager, this role will help create consistent, branded, accessible, and engaging content while supporting campaigns, food drives, events, and community partnerships. The ideal candidate is a strong communicator who enjoys storytelling, social media, event support, and working in a mission-driven nonprofit environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Content Creation & Scheduling

Assist with writing captions, creating graphics, reels, stories, and other digital assets using existing templates. Schedule content across multi platforms and help maintain a consistent, engaging online presence.

2. Community Engagement & Growth

Monitor and respond to comments, messages, and partner interactions while helping amplify the voices of donors, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners. Support engagement by identifying opportunities for connection, collaboration, and recognition.

3. Campaign & Event Support

Support food drives, fundraisers, awareness campaigns, and community events through promotion, preparation, day-of support, photo/video capture, follow-up, and thank-you content. Assist with event checklists, materials, fundraiser communications, and post- event summaries.

4. Metrics & Reporting

Track weekly social media, website, email, and campaign analytics in an organized reporting sheet. Help identify trends, successes, and opportunities to improve future content and engagement.

5. Organization & Administration

Maintain organized digital files, including photos, graphics, videos, captions, templates, campaign materials, and event assets. Support shared planning documents, task lists, timelines, and content request tracking.

6. Creative Development

Research social media trends, nonprofit communications ideas, and creative engagement opportunities. Contribute fresh ideas for storytelling, donor recognition, volunteer spotlights, campaigns, reels, and community outreach.

Qualifications

  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
  • Experience with Canva, social media platforms, and scheduling tools.
  • Familiarity with WordPress, Meta Business Suite, Instagram Insights, Google Workspace, and shared digital files.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
  • Comfortable supporting events, capturing content, and interacting with donors, volunteers, partners, fundraisers, and members of the public.
  • Interest in nonprofit work, community engagement, events, marketing, fundraising, and digital communications.
  • Able to work independently within a structured workflow while knowing when to ask questions, flag concerns, or seek approval.
  • Strong judgment, discretion, and respect for confidentiality when handling community stories, photos, donor information, partner communications, or sensitive situations.
  • Basic understanding of accessibility practices, including alt text, captions, readable formatting, and inclusive content creation.
  • Experience with email marketing, website updates, photography, video editing, digital analytics, event planning, media relations, communications, marketing, fundraising, or nonprofit work is an asset.
