Kingston Road Housingprovides safe deeply affordable housing for single people who are experiencing poverty, chronic homelessness and often the long-term effects of trauma, social isolation, varying degrees of mental health and substance use. Kingston Road Housing provides Housing with supports, including case management, on site 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. We work from a client centered, harm reduction, trauma informed, anti-oppressive framework.

What You Will Do:

  • The focus of the position is to work with chronically homeless tenants to access and maintain alternative supported housing with focus on supporting clients experiencing social isolation.
  • Encourage tenant participation in the development of short and long term goals, community development strategies, using a facilitative management approach to promote independent living and the safety and enjoyment of their housing.
  • This position will focus on community development and will plan, facilitate and engage with group programming, workshops and activities for the tenants.
  • Plan and facilitate regular programming for tenants that promotes social inclusion.
  • Engage with other service providers, both internal and external to Fred Victor in order to deliver programming and workshops to tenants.
  • Facilitate regular monthly tenant meetings and encourage tenant leadership in those meetings.
  • Complete a community needs assessment in order to plan appropriate community development activities.
  • Conduct regular case management meetings, develop case support plans, housing plans and short and long-term housing goals with clients.
  • Maintain up-to-date case management files, including accurate client progress notes.
  • Provide intake, assessment and case management services, utilizing a client-centered, strength-based, harm reduction approach to clients actively using substances.
  • Coach or assist a client in the development/maintenance of abilities relating to activities of daily living, self-care, crisis management strategies, symptom management, maintaining a support network, and skills teaching such as budgeting, grocery shopping and other life skills.
  • Assess the client’s support needs weekly based on indicators of stability (i.e. daily living skills, housing stabilization, finances, connection to primary healthcare, social networks, etc.)
  • Draft clear coordinated care plans (CCPs) for each client that advance client’s immediate needs and mid-term goals. Reassess and adjust those plans periodically throughout the service.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Strong understanding of and experience in community development practices.
  • This position will use a trauma informed, harm reduction, client centered, anti-oppressive approach to all of their work. This position requires respect for, and expertise working with, tenants who are facing mental and physical health issues, active substance use, history of trauma, abuse and social isolation and who come from racially and ethnically diverse backgrounds.
  • Extensive experience working with people who have experienced homelessness and poverty; understanding of the issues of homelessness, poverty and discrimination facing this community and how these issues affect the lives of individuals.
  • Highly developed and proven group facilitation skills.
  • Strong commitment to harm reduction, trauma informed, anti-oppressive and client- centered principles.

Compensation and Benefits:

  • For the Community Development Housing Worker, Fred Victor offers a pay rate of $29.40 per hour.
  • 4 weeks of vacation to start + 1 float day
