About Climate Resilient Communities Climate Resilient Communities (CRC) is a volunteer-run not-for-profit operating under Transition Toronto. We work at the intersection of community, data & AI, and climate change to strengthen communities' capacity to bounce forward from climate challenges. Role Purpose As a Community Connector, you'll explore your own neighbourhood while building meaningful relationships with local champions and community members. You'll learn about community strengths, priorities, and climate challenges, and share CRC's work to create opportunities for dialogue about whether our projects align with community needs and how collaboration might support community-led efforts.
Key Responsibilities
• Explore your own neighbourhood through authentic engagement in everyday interactions, local events, and conversations that deepen your understanding of community strengths, cultures, and priorities
• Listen and document community members' experiences with climate and social challenges, their aspirations, and existing efforts, capturing insights that help CRC learn from your neighbourhood
• Identify and connect with local champions: grassroots leaders, organizers, and community members who are already supporting their neighbourhoods
• Share information about CRC's work with your community, facilitating conversations about potential alignment with local goals and opportunities for collaboration
• Participate in regular check-ins with CRC through bi-weekly/monthly gatherings with fellow Community Connectors to share learnings and build collective understanding across communities
Required Qualifications
• Active member of a Toronto community or willingness to become more deeply
connected to your neighbourhood
• Curiosity and genuine openness to learning about your community, building
relationships, and engaging authentically with diverse people
• Strong documentation skills to capture and share community insights and
conversations
• Ability to commit approximately 4-6 hours per week to community exploration and
engagement
• Reliable communication and ability to participate in regular check-ins with the CRC
team
Nice-to-Have Qualifications
• Ability to speak languages commonly used in your neighbourhood beyond English
• Experience in community organizing/volunteering, grassroots advocacy, or
community engagement
• Existing relationships with local organizations, cultural groups, or informal networks
• Interest in or knowledge of climate and social justice issues affecting communities
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Key Deliverables & Success Metrics
• Develop understanding of your community's strengths, priorities, and climate/social
challenges through ongoing engagement and relationship-building
• Identify and connect with 3-5 community champions, local leaders, or grassroots
organizers already supporting your neighbourhood
• Document community insights, conversations, and observations to help CRC learn
from and understand diverse Toronto communities
• Contribute to building collective understanding across all Community Connectors
through shared learnings and experiences
• Facilitate conversations between your community and CRC about potential alignment
and opportunities for collaboration
Additional Notes We are seeking 3-5 Community Connectors from different Toronto neighbourhoods who are curious and open to learning about their communities through dialogue and authentic engagement. We welcome candidates without formal organizing experience who are interested in getting to know their communities better. Schedule flexibility is important as engagement may happen during evenings and weekends through informal gatherings
