Community Assist Volunteer

Are you looking for a volunteer position where you can significantly impact the local community? Food Banks Mississauga’s vision is a Mississauga where everyone is food secure. We lead our agency network to realize a food-secure Mississauga by providing and promoting access to healthy and appropriate food.

Purpose

To be the front face of the Community Assist program, welcoming food bank users who come to Food Banks Mississauga’s offices for food support, and providing client intakes, referrals to their local food bank, and other community resources through the Prosper Plan resource tool.

Key Performance Areas

• Welcome community members who come through the doors looking for food support
• Conduct intake into Food Banks Mississauga’s network of agencies through the Link2Feed database, and provide referrals to the closest neighbourhood food bank
• Ensure that client information is collected in a sensitive, empathetic, and confidential manner
• Assist clients in completing the food order form and packing custom hampers based on their dietary needs and preference
• Utilize Google Translation services to facilitate communication with clients if needed
• Complete the Prosper Plan referral and resource tool to equip them with community resources that address various personal needs
• Log appropriate information as it is provided
• Support additional projects as required, including occasionally the Food Bank 2 Home program

Experience

• Experience in frontline volunteering or work in the social services sector is an asset.
• Ability to navigate a client charting software a requirement (training will be provided)
