Position Title: Community Access Worker

Education & Experience: University degree or College diploma in a related field, with minimum of 1-3 years’ experience working directly with young persons in conflict with the law.

Hours Per Week: 20 minimum

Program Overview

Caring Beyond Reason® is at the heart of our community programs for youth, their families and support team. Guided by compassion and hope, we serve youth in and at risk of being in conflict with the law on a journey towards reintegration and purposeful living.

PROGRAM provides supervision, care, support and transportation of Open Custody/Open Detention youth who reside primarily in Toronto and Peel Region Youth Justice Facilities to various appointments. PROGRAM also purchases/funds approved goods and services assisting Probation Officers in Toronto and Peel Region to support the successful reintegration /rehabilitation of their clients.

All PROGRAM Workers must meet the training and qualification standards required by Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS) for Youth Justice.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Transport and escort youth to and from an Open Detention/Open Custody (OC/OD) Facility to scheduled appointments.
  • Ensure responsible usage and maintenance of all program vehicles.
  • Provide continuous supervision of youth at all times, unless otherwise specified by the program.
  • Support and consult with PROGRAM Coordinator as required.
  • Maintain professional relationships and partnerships with key stakeholders

Requirements

  • Flexible and dependable, with the ability to adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to provide clear, accurate, and timely updates.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically, solve problems, and make decisions as situations change.
  • Experience working with youth affected by trauma and systemic inequities, with the ability to respond with cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Able to work minimum 20 hours a week with flexibility to work evenings, overnights or weekends as required.
  • Willing and able to spend long periods of time driving or traveling by vehicle.
  • Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License and Insurance.
  • Valid First Aid certification.
  • Police Record Check with vulnerable sector screening.
