Overview:
The Toronto Metropolitan Catholic Campus Ministry is seeking a full time Campus Minister to contribute to the development of an integrated and comprehensive campus ministry program, focused on connecting campus life, student leadership and the Archdiocese of Toronto. Reporting to the Director, the Campus Minister works collaboratively with students, staff and members of Catholic Christian Outreach to foster a Catholic presence on campus.
Responsibilities:
Campus Ministry Programming and Implementation
- Provide pastoral presence, guiding and encouraging students in their spiritual, moral and personal growth and fostering their development as Catholic leaders
In consultation with the Director, support and guide other chaplaincy team members (e.g., missionaries, student interns) and other leaders in leadership and spiritual formation - Manage the members and oversee the work of the Toronto Metropolitan Catholic Students Association (TMCA) Executive, providing mentoring and ensuring the ongoing continuity of the club
- Lead faith-based gatherings, including small discussion groups and faith studies for students
- Contribute to the organization and execution of talks, retreats, prayer sessions, social events and events to foster vocations
- Support the Director in long-term strategic planning activities and the evaluation of the effectiveness of campus ministry initiatives
- Lead meetings representing the Director as needed
- Provide spiritual guidance and accompaniment where needed
- Organize opportunities for liturgical and sacramental formation • Other responsibilities as required
Men’s Ministry Coordination
- Develop and deliver programs to foster faith, growth, and maturity, enabling students to come into the fullness of the identity to which God has called them
- Promote and support student leadership by facilitating large and small group discussions
- Provide one on one pastoral care and peer mentorship to students and community
Outreach and Relationship Building
- Organize events to recruit new members during the year, especially during Orientation Week and Clubs Week
- Liaise with other Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) and community organizations
- Oversee social media student team to foster engagement with the chaplaincy
- Create a culture of welcoming students from relevant nearby campuses, including George Brown and OCADU, and encourage their involvement in the TMCCM
- Participate in other activities and organizations at TMU as appropriate
Development and Fundraising
- Collaborate in fundraising opportunities for TMCCM as appropriate
- Participate in other development consulting initiatives as needed
Collaboration and Professional Development
- Work collaboratively with other campus ministries throughout the Archdiocese, other archdiocesan groups and external partners
- Pursue ongoing professional development as appropriate
General Requirements:
- Post-Secondary degree with related experience
- 2-5 years’ experience in ministry (youth, young adult or campus ministry is preferred)
- Knowledge base in theology and social sciences
- Knowledge of the Catholic faith and willingness to uphold Catholic moral teachings, while leading a life consistent with the Catholic faith
- Familiar with the needs of students and the requirements of university life
- Excellent interpersonal, organization and communication skills
- Ability to work effectively as a collaborative team member
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and website content management
- Knowledge and experience with social media
- Flexible schedule with some evenings and weekends is required
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- A criminal background check will be required of the successful applicant
