MADD Toronto is seeking committed and experienced individuals to join its Chapter Board of Directors for a three-year volunteer term.

Serving on the MADD Toronto Board is an opportunity to contribute your professional expertise, leadership, networks, and time to an organization working to prevent impaired driving, support victims and survivors, and build safer communities.

We are particularly interested in candidates with experience and demonstrated skills in fundraising, finance, marketing and communications, although applications from individuals with other relevant professional, community, governance, or nonprofit experience are also welcome.

About the Opportunity

Board members play an important governance and strategic leadership role in the MADD Toronto Chapter. Working collaboratively with fellow directors, Board members help provide oversight, establish strategic priorities, support the Chapter's activities, and ensure that the organization operates effectively and responsibly in furtherance of its mission.

This is a volunteer, non-compensated Board position. Candidates should be prepared to make a meaningful commitment to Board meetings, committee work, Chapter activities, and the broader work of MADD Toronto.

The initial appointment is for a three-year term, subject to the applicable governance requirements of MADD Toronto and MADD Canada.

Skills and Experience Sought

MADD Toronto is particularly seeking individuals who can contribute expertise in one or more of the following areas:

Fundraising and Development

• Fundraising strategy and campaign development
• Major gifts and donor cultivation
• Corporate sponsorship and partnership development
• Grant development and philanthropic relations
• Event-based fundraising
• Donor stewardship and relationship management

Finance

• Financial management and oversight
• Accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting
• Audit and internal controls
• Risk management
• Experience serving on nonprofit or corporate finance committees is an asset
• CPA designation or equivalent experience is an asset

Marketing, Communications and Public Engagement

• Marketing strategy and brand development
• Digital and social media
• Communications and public relations
• Community engagement
• Campaign development
• Media relations
• Experience developing communications strategies for nonprofit, charitable, public-sector, or community organizations is an asset

Additional Board Experience

Experience in any of the following would also be valuable:

• Nonprofit or charitable-sector governance
• Strategic planning
• Legal or regulatory matters
• Human resources
• Government or public policy
• Community development
• Volunteer management
• Event planning
• Advocacy and public education

• Are willing to participate actively rather than simply hold a Board title

Previous Board experience is not essential. Individuals with strong professional or community experience who are interested in developing their governance experience are encouraged to apply.

Board Responsibilities

Board members are collectively responsible for providing effective governance and oversight of the Chapter. Responsibilities may include:

• Contributing to strategic planning and organizational priorities
• Providing financial and fiduciary oversight
• Supporting fundraising and resource development
• Participating in Board and committee meetings
• Supporting MADD Toronto events, campaigns, and community initiatives
• Acting as ambassadors for MADD Toronto within the community
• Leveraging professional and community networks to advance the Chapter's objectives
• Monitoring organizational performance and risk
• Ensuring appropriate accountability, transparency, and stewardship of charitable resources
• Supporting compliance with applicable governance requirements and MADD Canada policies

Board members are not expected to manage the day-to-day operations of the Chapter. Their primary role is one of governance, strategic oversight, stewardship, and leadership.

Time Commitment

Candidates should anticipate:

• Regular Board meetings throughout the year (expectation of 1 x monthly)
• Participation on at least one Board committee or working group
• Attendance and participation at selected MADD Toronto events and campaigns
• Additional preparation and committee work between meetings
• Increased involvement periodically around major fundraising, awareness, or community initiatives

The exact commitment will vary according to the Board's annual priorities and the committee responsibilities undertaken by each director.

Applications will be reviewed with consideration given to the candidate's experience, skills, commitment to MADD's mission, and the overall composition and needs of the Board.
