
Building Maintenance Worker
SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of Administration, he or she is responsible for all aspects of the building and property maintenance and minor repair. He or she is also responsible for the set up of meeting rooms. He or she will assume a pro-active role in all aspects of his responsibilities and provides input in the CCCB’s building maintenance planning.
Responsibilities:
1. Ensures the maintenance of the buildings, inside and outside, and performs various repairs.
- Performs daily routine maintenance tasks for the general upkeep of premises (cleaning bathrooms, vacuum hallways, keep front entrance floors clean and dry, regular cleaning of offices etc.)
- Inspects the premises regularly and recommends and/or performs necessary repairs;
- Responsible for exterior landscaping of property (horticulture, lawn maintenance, etc.)
- Responds to problems re., the plumbing and the electrical systems, and any other building related support system;
- Performs minor repairs, uses manual and power tools;
- Ensures the removal of snow and ice from sidewalks to maintain a safe walking area;
- Coordinates snow removal and ground maintenance (if necessary) with contractor;
- Maintains the inventory of products and equipment and recommends necessary work to ensure maintenance and security;
- Maintains an up-to-date list of chemicals stored on the CCCB’s premises in compliance with the MSDS Maintenance and Compliance policies. (Material Safety Data Sheet);
- Implements preventative maintenance schedules and procedures for safety checks and maintenance programs;
- Contacts contractors for major repairs as instructed and approved by the Director of Administration.
- Responds to general maintenance requests from staff in the building;
- Executes other routine maintenance and repair tasks, such as painting, hanging pictures, furniture repair, etc..
2. Executes other related tasks, such as:
- Ensures photocopier rooms are stocked with paper;
- Responsible for the external mail duties;
- Runs errands and delivers special packages/letters for the General Secretariat and other offices of the CCCB when necessary;
- Sets up meeting rooms as requested (requires moving furniture around);
- Waters and tends to plants;
- Moves heavy furniture, equipment and supplies;
- Ensures that security and safety measures are in place in the establishment.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Secondary School Diploma and a minimum of 2 years of related experience, and or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Basic knowledge of regulations pertaining to emergency security measures;
- Experience in cleaning and maintenance;
- Experience in repair and maintenance of property;
- Knowledge of plumbing, electrical, and building repair;
- Proven pro-active and initiative skills;
- Bilingual, French and English – an asset
- Skills in analysis, problem solving and ability to work alone;
- Ability to plan and organize work;
- Initiative and ability for teamwork;
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs;
- Must possess own vehicle;
- Criminal record check.
- WHMIS Training an asset (will be provided if required)
Conditions of Employment
- Salary range: $51,978 – $61,735
- Excellent working conditions, including pension and benefits
