About This role
Reporting to the Bounce Back, Team Lead, a Bounce Back Coach works on behalf of the Bounce Back: Reclaim Your Health skill-building program designed to help youth 13+ and adults experiencing mild to moderate symptoms of depression (with or without anxiety). The role of the coach is to teach new skills, to help clients stay motivated, to answer questions, and to monitor progress. Bounce Back coaches are not therapists; they are trained in the delivery of a specific program known to be effective in relieving mild to moderate depression and are overseen by psychologists. The French Community Coach will provide the service to both French and English-speaking clients.
Key Responsibilities
Required Skills and Experience
- Provide telephone-based coaching to enable primary health care patients to complete a structured self-help program for mild to moderate depression with/or anxiety;
- Assist with the implementation of the Bounce Back program in the local community;
- Participate in community and educational events that increase access to Bounce Back resources and messages;
- Foster and maintain effective communication with the CMHA-BC Division, local family practice units and networks, health authority services and personnel, and other local health/social organizations;
- A flexible work schedule is required, along with travelling to various lower mainland locations;
- As part of general program participant eligibility, staff is responsible for administering suicide risk assessment, PHQ-9, and GAD-7
General
- Attends monthly staff meetings, committee meetings and others as required;
- Submits regular activity reports, timesheets, expense forms, etc. as required;
- Reinforces and models work-related behavior and interpersonal skills;
- Represents the agency in a professional manner;
- Provides cover for other program staff as appropriate and required; and
- Other related duties as appropriate and required.
Your Qualifications
Required Skills and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in a health or social services field;
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a related field; Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience, or other qualifications determined to be reasonable and relevant to the level of work;
- Experience with suicide/self-harm risk assessments desirable;
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing in French and English;
- Ability to establish and maintain rapport with clients, including older adults with multiple health problems;
- Community Development experience;
- Familiarity through direct personal experience or the experience of family and friends in living with chronic conditions and or mood problems;
- Experience working with diverse cultural groups, including new immigrants and refugees;
- Ability to organize and prioritize;
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently;
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal;
- Demonstrated skill in word processing computer applications;
- First Aid / CPR certification (as required).
Additional Position Requirements:
- Successful criminal record check for the vulnerable adults and children sector; and
- Verification of education and employment credentials as part of the hiring process.

CMHA Lower Mainland offers a competitive total rewards package designed to support employee wellbeing, financial security, and work life balance. This position is classified at Grid 34 with an hourly salary range of $33.48 to $35.31 per hour. In addition to the hourly rate, employees are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package and participation in the Municipal Pension Plan. Approved work-related mileage is reimbursed in accordance with the organization’s internal expense reimbursement policy.
The role starts with three weeks (16 days) of paid vacation in the first year, with additional vacation accrued based on length of service. The position also includes statutory holidays and access to additional leave provisions in accordance with the collective agreement and CMHA Lower Mainland’s included employee policies, supporting rest, balance, and wellbeing.
