Bravestone Centre is accepting applications for Board Treasurer. This a great opportunity for those who hold the professional designation of CPA, have demonstrated leadership skills, and want to part of a dynamic team providing excellence in oversight and strategic leadership.

Role: Board of Directors, Treasurer (Volunteer)

Term: 2-years (renewable)

Overview: Bravestone Centre Inc. is a nationally accredited, non-profit charitable organization in Winnipeg, Manitoba that provides women and their children affected by domestic violence with the skills to lead a life free of violence through full-time counselling and support programs while living in the safety of our program. As the 1st second stage program in Manitoba to open its doors in 1986, Bravestone Centre (formerly WISH Inc.) is very proud of its long-term service to women and children dealing with the impact of domestic violence.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Monitor organizational finances including the approval of yearly budgets and advising the board of directors on an ongoing basis of agency’s financial situation.
  • In conjunction with the Chairs of fundraising committees, ensuring that funding sources, members, governments and their agencies receive timely and accurate financial reports.
  • Oversee the independent audit of the agency’s accounts.
  • Regularly attend and actively participate in board and committee meetings
  • Provide input in the development, management, and evaluation of policies, strategic plans, and business plans
  • Advocate for and positively represent Bravestone Centre to the general public
  • Assess and mitigate risks facing the organization
  • Ensure Bravestone Centre’s compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
  • Participate in fundraising activities and initiatives in a manner commensurate with your ability

Time Commitment

  • 2-3 hours during the evening at monthly board meetings
  • An average of 8 hours / month participation in board committees that align with your skills and experience (e.g. Fundraising Committee)
  • Mandatory attendance at our Annual General Meeting held in June

Meeting Schedule:

Board meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of every month September to June. Full Board Orientation is held on the 1st Thursday of September – current and new board members are to attend
