Board Members & Volunteer Leaders — Canada-Wide
The South Asian Community Advocacy Network (SACAN) is getting ready to launch, and we’re looking for South Asian women from across Canada who want to be part of building it with us.
SACAN was created to bring more attention to the issues affecting South Asian communities in Canada and to create more space for our communities to be heard. Our work will focus on advocacy, research and community engagement, including issues such as racism and hate, gender-based barriers, newcomer experiences, representation and other challenges affecting our communities.
Since we are still at the beginning, the people who join us will have a real opportunity to help shape the organization. We’re looking for volunteers who are willing to bring their ideas, take on projects and help us figure out where SACAN can make the greatest impact.
You do not need previous board or nonprofit experience. We welcome people from different backgrounds and stages of their careers, including university and college students and those looking for their first opportunity to get involved in community work.
There will be opportunities to get involved in areas such as research, advocacy, community outreach, communications, events, partnerships and organizational planning. As SACAN grows, responsibilities and leadership opportunities will grow with it.
These are volunteer positions. We also want this experience to be valuable for the people who give their time to SACAN. We can provide confirmation of volunteer hours and experience, and reference letters may be available based on an individual’s involvement and contributions.
More than anything, we’re looking for people who care about the issues affecting South Asian communities and are willing to show up, contribute and help us build something meaningful.
