Board Director and Treasurer

About us

Sabr Safe Living is a new Ontario non-profit corporation with a charitable registration application in progress with the CRA. We are building 24/7 staffed supportive housing for adults with stable mental health conditions who are leaving hospital with nowhere safe to go or who are at risk of homelessness. We serve the City of Toronto. Our first home will house three residents with a Person in Charge on site at all times.

What you will do

  • Chair financial oversight for the board and bring financial questions to the full board in plain language
  • Review and recommend the annual budget and monitor spending against it
  • Oversee the bookkeeper and the annual financial review or audit once we are operating
  • Support compliance with CRA charity requirements, including the annual information return once registered
  • Help build our first financial policies, including signing authority, expense approval, and reserve policy
  • Participate in board meetings and contribute to overall governance, not just finance

What we are looking for

  • Required: professional accounting or financial management experience. A CPA designation is strongly preferred
  • Helpful: experience with Canadian registered charities, non-profit financial reporting, or the CRA T3010
  • Helpful: knowledge of supportive housing, mental health services, or the Ontario community services sector
  • Comfortable with the pace and ambiguity of a startup organization

Why join us?

  • You would be one of the first directors of a new organization and would shape its financial governance from the first policy forward. Directors are covered by directors and officers liability insurance before the organization begins operations.

Our Hiring process

  • Initial application review.
  • Interview with the hiring panel.
  • Final interview with the board.
  • Offer and onboarding.

Place of work / Location

  • Location: Toronto
