Sighted volunteers can help change that! Learn to transcribe print into braille, the tactile reading medium for those visually impaired people who cannot read print.
How do I learn?
• CNIB offers an 8-month intensive, contracted transcription course (at no cost) for volunteers who can make the time commitment.
• Classes are held Tuesday mornings from 10am to 12noon, September – April, at the headquarters of the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, 1929 Bayview Ave, Toronto (just north of Eglinton Ave.), or by Zoom as/when necessary, due to inclement weather.
• Homework assignments from each week’s class require about two hours a day to complete (approximately 15 hours a week).
What do I need?
• Love of words and excellent English language skills
• Comfortable working with a computer
• Access to a Windows PC computer; a printer and an email address

• Self-motivated, organized, dedicated and looking to be part of a team
• Able to make a continued volunteer commitment – at least three years which includes a weekly shift (10am-3pm) at CNIB’s Braille Room
• Dedicated to smashing barriers for accessibility!
