Position summary

The Assistant Manager, Casework and Social Support will provide oversight of case workers and staff providing other related support at St. Felix Centre. The Assistant Manager will plan and implement case management activities and liaise with the Manager of Casework and other departments to train staff and build capacity and awareness of case work activities and programming. The Assistant Manager will supervise the case work and social support team to ensure that goals and objectives are met and re-evaluate programs and services to make improvements on an ongoing basis.

RESPONSIBILITES

  • Communicate effectively and use a professional approach with all team members, supervisors, community members, and other stakeholders;
  • Collaborate with team members to enhance programs and services and troubleshoot issues;
  • Identify barriers and provide suggestions to improve accessibility;
  • Engage in supportive communication and conflict resolution;
  • Maintain positive relationships with other service providers, including but not limited to community partners and emergency personnel;
  • Keep professional documentation and records as required;
  • Attend and engage in staff meetings and training sessions;
  • Follow all operational protocols, including incident and injury reporting;
  • Keep informed about and support implementation of all updates to Health and Safety best practices including IPAC and PPE requirements;
  • Respond to emails, calls, and other staff communications in a timely manner;
  • Direct questions and concerns to the appropriate departments;
  • Exercise time management and task prioritization skills;
  • Recruit and onboard new staff;
  • Develop and facilitate guest activities;
  • Monitor and evaluate staff performance and provide ongoing coaching;
  • Ensure program compliance with standards and guidelines as defined by the organization and its funding agencies;
  • Assist the Manager with department budget and ensure accuracy of expenditure reporting;
  • Prepare, submit, and present program reports;
  • Facilitate staff meetings and training sessions;
  • Work with the Manager to develop and implement program assessment tools;
  • Work with the manager to plan and implement strategic program improvements;
  • Develop, interpret, and implement program policies and protocols;
  • Develop and manage partnerships with community agencies;
  • Participate as a representative of the organization at relevant sector tables;
  • Attend scheduled shifts;
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION

  • Completion of Bachelor Social Work or degree in similar discipline or equivalent work experience in a related field - Lived experience will be considered an asset;
  • Completion of the following certificates considered an asset: First Aid, CPR, Overdose response and Naloxone administration, Non-violent crisis intervention, Anti racism and anti-oppressive practice, Food handlers’ certificate, SMIS certificate, Fire Warden training, Toronto Respite Standards;
  • Joint health and Safety certification considered an asset.

EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working in a similar setting e.g. shelter, respite; supportive housing.
  • Minimum 1 years’ experience managing staff in a social service setting;
  • Experience facilitating and building partnerships with external agencies;
  • Experience with facilitating workshops and leading training.
  • Working knowledge of the City of Toronto 24-Hour Respite Site Standards and Toronto Shelter Standards (TSS) an asset;
  • Experience working with individuals in a Harm Reduction setting.

SKILLS

  • Demonstrated ability to navigate software such as Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Zoom, WebEx, MS Teams etc.;
  • Professional documentation;
  • Experience working with people experiencing homelessness;
  • Experience working with unions is considered an asset;
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written and verbal);
  • Performance management, including coaching and motivating employees;
  • Conflict resolution and de-escalation skills;
  • Understanding of anti-oppressive practice.

SCHEDULE & DETAILS

Shift: Tuesday to Saturday (9:00 am - 5:00 pm)
