A Quick Story

It was 1964 in the rolling countryside of England in a peaceful little county called Sussex.

A well-respected thinker eagerly passed on discoveries made in his original research to a very select audience.

This groundbreaking lecture outlined how to study anything effectively and quickly put it into action in the real world -a new & unique way to master anything.

…But this wasn’t just speed reading or memory tricks. He found the root cause of inability to study or giving up at something – Not what your high school teacher ever taught you!

Rough Spots

His discoveries allowed people to become sharper and stronger in life. They could use this new method and really achieve success in whatever they wanted to. But not everything went according to plan…

Certain powerful personalities viewed this as a threat.

These discoveries could lead to a smarter population that could think for themselves. People would see past their smoke and mirrors in government, big-business and advertising.

…It would cut down their income and affect their bottom line!

They attacked his organization with TV, Radio and Newspapers they owned by labelling it a cult, a scam and smearing it with false stories.

These “Authorities” howled. Yet the organization grew worldwide… to over 11,000 central organizations, chapters and affiliated groups.

Fast Forward

This new method, called “Study Technology”, later came to be used by 28 million people across 70 nations, with 320 licensed schools and centers in North & Central America.

A study within South Africa’s Department of Education showed a passing rate of 91% for students taught using Study Technology vs. only 27% in the control group.

It worked…

It was an essential part of a bigger subject that made people more intelligent and able; a practical study of wisdom or knowledge.

The thinker, a trained engineer from George Washington University, went on to become the most published author of all time, with 1084 publications to his name, he earned a Guinness World Record (and 3 others too!).

He spent 50+ years researching the potentials of mind and spirit, applying engineering and scientific research techniques to the mind and spirit.

Ok, so you have a little bit of the back story.

The name of the thinker is L. Ron Hubbard; a humanitarian, educator and best-selling author.

In 1950, he wrote a #1 New York Times best-selling book on the mind, with over 20,000,000 copies sold! But he was just getting started …

He founded a movement in 1952 known as Scientology. It’s taken from the Latin scio, which means "knowing” and the Greek word logos, meaning "study of."

Spirit, Mind, Religion … Huh?

So, what does “study of knowing” have to do with the spirit, the mind or religion?

Well, what was doing the knowing? Hubbard found under very exact conditions, the “spirit” could exteriorize (separate) from the body…

(Actually, a study found 10-20% of people have had an out of body experience: Kars, M., et al. Out-of-Body Experiences in a Clinical Population, Journal of Nervous and Mental Disease, 199(4), 236-241.)

Since he had entered the study of the spirit, “religion” was the closest-fitting word.

Not your typical Go-Sunday-and-Pray kind of place, but how to strengthen, and bring awareness and power to a person (spirit).

Actually, on this topic Hubbard says, “Nothing in Scientology is true for you unless you have observed it and it is true according to your observation.”

People often wonder, is it what it claims to be?

Well… if it didn’t work, why would it have grown to 167 Nations? The Vancouver Branch has been at the same address downtown for 45 years.
