About Us
Fred Victor is a leader in improving the health, income and housing stability of people experiencing poverty and homelessness in Toronto. Every day, more than 3,000 people use Fred Victor services.
Fred Victor has over 700 staff and an annual operating budget of over $70 million.
Our programs include supportive housing, shelter services, employment and training programs, community health programs, food services, individual support and case management services, and a variety of community and personal development initiatives.
Fred Victor has a portfolio of buildings, including shelters, transitional, supportive, and affordable housing. Some of these buildings are owned by Fred Victor while others are leased.
Fred Victor works closely with a wide variety of funders, including the City of Toronto and the Ontario Government, to plan and deliver innovative, high quality, cost-effective, and efficient services. We receive considerable financial support from individuals, corporations and foundations.

Recruitment
The Fred Victor Board is seeking individuals who possess skills in any of the following areas:
- Accounting/Finance
- Legal
- Real Estate
Knowledge and experience in the areas of homelessness, housing, mental health and addictions and in Fred Victor program areas is an asset. Fred Victor strives to represent its communities and values the expertise of people with lived experience.
We welcome and encourage individuals who have lived experience with homelessness to bring their voice to our Board, as well as service providers and professionals in the shelter and support, affordable housing, public health, and mental health and addictions sectors.
Board Role and Expected Contribution
Fred Victor Board directors support the work of the organization by providing oversight, leadership, strategic advice and engagement. Fred Victor’s Board is a governance Board and does not manage or engage in day-to-day operations.
A Board director will normally serve a three-year term, with the option to apply for one additional term to a maximum of six years of total service. Board members are expected to commit 10-12 hours per month to Fred Victor activities including regularly attending monthly Board meetings and participating on at least one Board committee. Board committees include:
- Governance Committee
- Finance Committee
- Audit Committee
- Fundraising Committee
- Service Quality Committee
- Affordable Housing Committee
Flexibility to meet weekday evenings and to participate in occasional offsite meetings and event is preferred. Board meetings typically occur one Thursday per month for 90 minutes from September to May. The Annual Meeting takes place during an afternoon in June. Board committee meetings take place monthly during weekdays, based on the availability of committee members.
Board directors are further encouraged to attend and represent Fred Victor at various events, including Fred Talks, Fred’s Walk, Taste of Regent Park, and Street Eats.
