Employment Type: Part-time – 20-24 hours per week, flexible hours, hybrid - instore and off-site

Position Summary

The Community Engagement and Marketing Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing marketing strategies that increase brand awareness, customer engagement, and sales for our fair-trade goods store. This role supports the organization’s mission by effectively communicating the impact of fair trade, ethical sourcing, and community partnerships to customers and stakeholders. The Marketing Specialist combines creativity, strategic thinking, and data-driven decision-making to grow in-store and online presence, and to increase the community profile of the store. The Marketing Specialist will also be familiar with store operations and will assist in store occasionally as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Marketing Strategy Planning & Monitoring

  • Develop and execute annual and seasonal marketing plans aligned with store goals.
  • Create campaigns to promote products, events, and fair-trade education initiatives.
  • Identify target audiences and tailor messaging accordingly.
  • Track promotion effectiveness and provide performance reports

Digital Marketing & Content Creation

  • Manage social media accounts (e.g., Instagram, Facebook, email newsletters).
  • Create engaging content including photos, videos, blog posts, and promotional materials.
  • Maintain and update the store website and online shop.
  • Monitor analytics and adjust strategies based on performance data.

Brand & Communications

  • Ensure consistent brand messaging that reflects fair trade principles and organizational values.
  • Develop in-store signage, promotional displays, and print materials.
  • Write press releases and coordinate media outreach when appropriate.
  • Collaborate with store staff to align marketing with merchandising strategies.

Community Engagement & Partnerships

  • Promote store events, community collaborations, and seasonal campaigns.
  • Build relationships with local organizations, vendors, and community partners.
  • Support educational initiatives that communicate the impact of fair trade.
  • Organize off-site events and sales, and participate in festival sales as appropriate
  • Coordinate product launches and seasonal promotions.

Basic Store Operations

  • Be familiar with essential store operations, such as opening and closing, and the POS system
  • Assist if needed in the store to cover occasional staffing needs in the case of vacations or illness
