The ByWard Family Health Team (FHT) is a multidisciplinary primary care organization dedicated to improving the health and wellbeing of our community. Our team of physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, social workers, dietitians, pharmacists, and other health professionals work collaboratively to provide comprehensive, patient-centered care.

The ByWard FHT serves a diverse patient population in downtown Ottawa and is committed to accessibility, inclusivity, and innovation in primary care delivery.

Governance Renewal

ByWard FHT is embarking on a governance renewal process to ensure its Board of Directors reflects best practices in accountability, diversity, and strategic leadership. Through the development of a new Board-approved strategic plan, the FHT will:

  • Strengthen its vision and mission.
  • Enhance alignment with provincial health system priorities, including Ontario Health Teams.
  • Ensure long-term sustainability and excellence in governance.

The Board of Directors provides strategic oversight, ensures accountability, and supports the mission of ByWard FHT. Directors are expected to:

  • Contribute to strategic planning and policy development.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and fiduciary responsibilities.
  • Act as ambassadors for the FHT in the community.

Commitment

  • Term: [2 or 3 years, renewable]
  • Meetings: Approx. 8–10 Board meetings per year, plus committee participation.
  • Preparation: Review materials and actively participate in discussions.

Qualifications

We are seeking candidates with experience in one or more of the following:

  • Health care governance or leadership
  • Finance, legal, or risk management
  • Community engagement and advocacy
  • Strategic planning and organizational change
  • Cybersecurity and IT

Required degree level

  • Experienced (Non Manager)
  • Manager/Department Head
  • Executive/Leadership

Years of experience (Optional)

  • 5 - 10 years of experience
