POSITION: EMPLOYMENT COUNSELLOR / JOB DEVELOPER
PROGRAM: EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM
REPORTS TO: MANAGER OF EMPLOYMENT PROGRAM
WORK HOURS: 35 HOURS PER WEEK
RATE OF PAY: $ 25.91 per hour plus benefits
JOB SUMMARY
The Employment Counsellor /Job Developer will provide job search and life skills training, counselling and job development for the purpose of employment placement of Ontario Works clients in a field related to their occupation.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Manage a caseload of various job seekers from Ontario Works in the Region of Peel
· Work with participants to develop job search tools and implement back-to-work action plans and activities
· Develop with other team members and deliver “Step to Success” job search workshops
· Provide active life skills coaching to clients for successful employment placements
· Implement and revise as necessary an effective marketing strategy to build employer contacts in sectors relevant to client occupation
· Job develop for Social Assistance clients and place them in a meaningful employment
· Maintain client files, database, and monthly client progress, and 3 and 6-months follow-ups
· Assist/coach clients using the Resource Room in their job search, including computer/Internet
· Record milestones with regard to client placement; collect placement data and follow-up results
· Attend job fairs to market the program to clients and employers
· Liaise with other agency departments to refer clients to other supports
· Submit monthly reports to the Manager of Employment Programs
QUALIFICATIONS
· University, College or equivalent in career and employment counseling or human resources
· 3 years direct experience in successful job development and employment placement
· Certified in Life Skills coaching or equivalent
· Expertise in working effectively with various job seekers, including people with barriers to employment, e.g
social assistance recipients and immigrants
· Excellent English communication and presentation skills, both written and verbal are essential.
· Ability to work in a computerized environment using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint & MS Outlook
· Knowledge of labour market issues and trends as they relate to the geographic, demographic and economic aspects of the Labour Market in the Peel Region
· Strong interpersonal, organizational and customer satisfaction skills
· Sensitivity to and understanding of issues of concern with Social Assistance clients
· Team player; demonstrated proficiency in relationship building and maintain positive relationships with employers and clients
· Problem solving ability, should possess diplomacy and tact
· Criminal reference check is required
· Valid Ontario Driver's License and access to a vehicle for the purpose of on site visits
