GENERAL FUNCTION: The Job Developer is responsible for outreach to employers, arranging co-op placements for program participants, who are newcomers to Canada, and marketing them for employment in subsidized and competitive jobs upon completion of their co-op. In addition the Job Developer is responsible for monitoring the participants to support their job maintenance and retention.
SERVICE RESPONSIBILITIES:
o In consultation with other staff, conducts outreach to Toronto employers to encourage participation in these programs.
o Use a job development approach in the recruitment of unpaid co-op placements and paid job placements annually for CONNECTIONS and EP participants. Fifty percent of CONNECTIONS participants will be employed at program exit with another 20 percent employed within four months of using Employment Placement services. Another fifty percent of Employment Placement participants will receive job development services.
o Assist with the delivery of orientation sessions, group workshops and other direct services to participants in the absence of the Co-ordinator or as assigned.
o Develop and facilitate customer service and interview workshops for the participants.
o Provide mock job placement interviews for participants
o Screen and match the participants for job placement, ensuring a good match with participant’s skills, abilities and career goals.
o Conduct employer visits for the purpose of assessment, training plan development, contract signing, and monitoring of Connections and EP placements.
o Find paid employment opportunities for participants not hired by training employers.
o Provide individual guidance and support to participants during their placement
o Respond to general enquiries about the Connections and Employment Placement programs.
o Assist with the collections and compilation of statistical and other relevant data to support program planning and evaluation and reporting to the funder and the agency
o Conduct follow-up of participants according to predetermined time frames for the Connections and Employment Placement programs.
o Arrange for guest speakers and job site tours for participants to encourage labour market contact.
o Assist with the planning of special events and meetings.
ORGANIZATIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Prepare for and actively participate in regular supervision meetings with the Program Co-ordinator, including the establishment and evaluation of an annual goal plan.
o Participate in ETC/House program activities, meetings and committees, as appropriate and/or assigned.
o Cooperate with health and safety instructions and regulations.
o Maintain accurate records required by St. Stephen’s Community House and the ETC.
o Adhere to all House/ETC policies and procedures and ensure confidentiality is maintained in all client, human resources and agency matters.
o As a representative of St. Stephen’s, responsible for ensuring professional and effective communication with colleagues, employers, clients and representatives of referring and other organizations.
C. TO PERFORM OTHER DUTIES/ASSIGNMENTS
QUALIFICATIONS:
o B.A. or related Community College Diploma or certificate in Marketing or Public Relations or equivalent skills and related experience.
o Minimum two years experience in job development/employer relations.
o Knowledge of MS Word and ACCESS required.
o Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills
o Knowledge and understanding of the target group, labour market trends and job development methods; an understanding of Building Trust Relationships methodology is an asset.
o Ability to work effectively as a member of the team and independently.
o Creative self starter, results oriented, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills
o Multicultural sensitivity and the ability to work in a multicultural/multiracial organization
o Second language an asset.
Salary: $41,686per annum
