St Stephen’s Community House is a non-profit multi-service social agency operating out of 8 locations in downtown Toronto. We are looking for a skilled, enthusiastic and committed individual to provide friendly employment resource counselling services at our busy Mobilizer Project. Reporting to the Mobilizer Coordinator, the Employment Resource Counsellor is responsible for assisting users to access the resources of the Mobilizer, a mobile Employment Resource Centre, providing individual guidance, referral and group workshops in various high need neighbourhoods. The Mobilizer operates Monday to Friday; Monday and Tuesday 10 – 6, Wednesday and Thursday 11 – 7 and Friday 9 – 5. Occasional Saturdays must be worked as part of community outreach duties.

Responsibilities:

·       Plan and deliver information sessions and workshops pertaining to resume, cover letter, and interview skills, labour market information and the Internet.

·       Facilitate the clients’ self-directed job search by providing one-on-one assistance in a supportive, user friendly environment.

·       Outreach and liaise with training organizations and community agencies, making presentations/conducting off-site workshops as requested.

·       Research, obtain and maintain updated materials, (i.e. periodicals, books, labour market information, news clippings) related to a wide range of current employment, education and training opportunities.

·       Assist the Marketing and Community Relations Officer in promoting the Mobilizer.

·       Contact employers to provide information on labour market trends, apprenticeship and recruitment practices.

·       Conduct orientation tours on the Mobilizer for new users.

·       Liaise with counsellors and community agencies, training institutions and schools to ensure the appropriate referral of clients to local employment and community services.

·       Maintain accurate and up to date statistics on numbers of clients attending orientations, workshops, and using and the Mobilizer.

·       Create bulletin boards and hand-outs that focus on all users including youth and newcomers

Qualifications:

·         B.A., B.S.W. or Community College Diploma in Adult Education, Employment/Career Counselling or equivalent.

·         One year experience in employment/career counselling and conducting group workshops.

·         Excellent understanding of employment and training resources, and labour market information.

·         Demonstrated organizational abilities.

·         Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills.

·         Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team.

·         Multicultural sensitivity and the ability to work in multicultural/multiracial organization.

·         Knowledge and the ability to fully utilize computerized career and job search applications, including MS Office 2000-MS Word, Internet, Windows XP

·         Knowledge and understanding of the client group and related social services/programs.

·         Able to travel by transit or vehicle to areas the Mobilizer serves.

·         Second language an asset.

Salary:   $ 39,419 prorated. Non-union, 30 -32 weeks.
