How important is professional accreditation to you in your work (e.g. CFRE, CAE, ABC)?
This is a great question and topic! Congratulations on including it. I wholeheartedly support and believe in professional accreditation.E-mail us your thoughts today at help@charityvillage.com.I received my Accredited Business Communicator (ABC) designation last year from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). When people ask about the letters after my name, it offers an ideal opportunity to educate them about accreditation for communications professionals. Once I explain what this designation is all about, people immediately realize that the time and dedication needed to undertake the three-step process to achieve accreditation is a courageous one, more so because you are evaluated by your peers and colleagues.
On a personal level, pursuing accreditation was a challenge to me. I wanted to test myself to see if I could achieve this...and I did.
Professionally, accreditation provides my clients and colleagues with the confidence of knowing I am dedicated to professional development and my career. It also demonstrates to clients that I will be more valuable as a communications adviser and strategic thinker to them and their business needs.
The ABC process offers communicators a way of demonstrating their ability to think and plan strategically and to successfully manage those skills essential to effective communication, which could include internal employee communications, media relations and other external communications and crisis communications.
I would encourage anyone to pursue the professional designation of their choice. It is definitely worth it, both personally and professionally.
