Federal bill to legalize same-sex marriage
Did the federal government make the right decision in passing a bill to legalize same-sex marriage?
Years ago, I was privileged to MC a 'legal' gay wedding in Vancouver. The couple
had a minister and all the relevant documents. There was a religious ceremony
with the families of both the marriage partners present. There were performances
by talented friends in honour of the event, there were toasts, there was a small
mountain of nice gifts, a fabulous dinner and the usual funny speeches and
toasts...it was a wedding!
They're still together and still in love. Their families have become closer.
It's a marriage!
They're gay. It's not a fad, it's not a 'lifestyle', it's not even a choice. It's
just a fact of life. And it's about time Parliament and the law caught up with
the rest of us.
