The value of volunteer time
I think volunteer time has to be valued based on what the volunteer is
doing. $17.55 might be a perfect monetary value for a direct service
volunteer. But a lawyer volunteering her time might be valued at $90/hour,
a management consultant at $50/hour, an IT pro at $25/hour, and an admin
volunteer at $14/hour. I think it's inaccurate to give every volunteer hour
one monetary value because we don't value different tasks as the same when
there is money involved. It feels like a false reflection of what we are
getting.
