Using e-mail to solicit for funds
I try very hard to look at our fundraising campaigns through the
eyes of a donor. When I think of receiving requests by e-mail on top of the
flood I already get over the phone and through the mail, it makes me consider
cancelling my internet service. I think the average person would consider
such requests as 'spam' along with all the 'online diploma', 'you're a winner',
and 'enlargement' e-mails that filters are designed to screen out.
From a nonprofit point of view, I'm already seeing a problem trying to contact
volunteers and supporters by e-mail, as their spam programs already snag a
large portion of the mass e-mailings that I try to send. I'm content to provide
an online donation option on our website, and leave it at that.
