Service club membership

The decision to be a member of a service club is one that came easily to me. It allows me to share my time amongst a variety of worthwhile charities, without committing myself to any one. As my personal interests and societal issues have shifted over the years, the focus of involvement in the service club has changed right along with the times. This year alone, I have been involved in projects benefiting people who are homeless, hungry, and poverty-stricken. I have helped tackle issues of disability, racism, and literacy, worked to clean up the environment, brightened the lives of senior citizens, and made a huge difference in the lives of local youth. I am a far more active, aware and involved citizen because of my time in Civitan. The stereotypes of service club members persist but, as a 31 year old woman, I am confident that the service club model of volunteering works best for me.
