The federal NHL bailout is dead. Does it mean anything for Canada's charities and nonprofits? Many charities benefit directly from having vibrant professional sports teams in their city, either through a team's charitable foundation, affiliations with individual players or freebies in the form of tickets, meeting space or other activities.

Should professionals in the nonprofit sector be concerned with the threat of losing professional sports teams in their city?

"Many charities benefit directly from having vibrant professional sports teams in their city."

Eh? Surely the millionaires who own the teams and the millionaires who play for them are the real beneficiaries. As many Canadians demonstrated, it is absurd beyond belief to cut funding to vital services like education and health care and then give handouts to hockey teams.

Instead of relying on the relatively small amounts that millionaire sports owners might donate to charity, how about having government fund social services like they used to?

And for your next question, how about asking about the morality of Rod Bryden funneling Senators' income through a "Foundation" to avoid paying corporate taxes?
